I am crossposting this everywhere I can.
The CEO of NorCal Center on Deafness is issuing a call for your testimonies of your experience in the education system as a Deaf or Hard of Hearing adult, student, family member, friend, educator, interpreter, and so on. Anyone who is or was involved in the education system. The purpose is to bring the testimonies of people to the State Legislators and Governor’s attention and push for a reform in how education is conducted for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing, such as guaranteed skilled interpreters for students in the mainstreamed school, better support of the Deaf/Hard of Hearing individual for interacting and job skills in the hearing world.

As someone that survived the education system here in Northern California, I can say that the education system for the Deaf/HoH is far from good. For example, you are not guaranteed a skilled interpreter all the time in a mainstreamed environment. A high percent of my class did not make it past graduation of high school, and many were not able to get or hold a job that paid enough to support them in a home with transportation, clothing, food and medical needs on their own. Additionally, many who graduate high school, have a reading level of a third grader compared to a hearing student’s 10th grade reading level. Please join and change the education system for our future Deaf/Hoh generations.
