One of my Digital Imaging class assignment was to create a self-portrait using a background wallpaper, a circle in our chosen color, and 12 images of our favorite items. We couldn’t show a picture of ourselves tho.
Here’s mine. I’m curious, does it tell you anything new?

“Studying Hana’s self-portrait I observe technical proficiency and an eye for detail as I get a glimpse at who she is. It’s the subtle details that show her skill, such as the brilliant 3D effect on the circle behind the images, and the shading below the images in the bottom half of the circle. The background is an image of a serene wood, well-chosen because it is made up mostly of one color and doesn’t detract from the smaller images, while giving a hint at Hana’s contemplative nature. The images are clear and cleanly cropped, very professionally done.
A few things hint at Hana’s Asian heritage, or at least an affinity toward things Asian; both the food and the art tend toward that culture. She also shows her artistic influences go beyond that culture into the realm of fantasy art with a glorious medieval-style dragon, and to a more global scale with the picture of the Met in NYC. This last hints at her intellect, also apparent in her love of reading. The books and large, inviting bed show an appreciation of things of familiar comfort, while being contrasted by a love of cutting-edge technology, displayed by her laptop, electronic drawing board and digital camera. She has been well taught by her varied influences, as her own artwork shows us; she’s quite talented. A self portrait within a self portrait, perhaps? Quite clever.
Another element of her more earthy side is the cute but mysterious black cat; cat lovers always like to keep you guessing. I am a cat tolerater myself, but they’re interesting little furry people. So she’s shown us her hobbies and background as well as her passion, and lastly with a touch of whimsy she shows us where she’d like to be; a tranquil beach on the ocean. Or perhaps this is where she’s been before? Maybe both. In all I would say Hana is a peaceful, artistic person with both traditional and modern values and a worldly intellect.”
I was amazed at how well my partner read me. The beach on the ocean is a place I dream of going to…I haven’t gotten there yet, but it’s what I dream of whenever I feel stressed and need to get away from the everyday life.
