I’m on a week-long vacation but it’s really 9 days — 5 days away from work, two weekends. It’s been so good to be at home. The first 3 days was hard. I slept so much the first 3 days, then on the fourth day, I started puttering around and cleaning up.
I started cleaning around the house, picking up clutter and putting things away. I have an old HP desktop computer with a CRT monitor that has two speakers mounted on its side like a pair of ears, to get rid of. It belonged to my sister and I thought I’d look at if I could upgrade it, but it can’t be upgraded short of replacing the entire motherboard and buying a new processor, RAM, bigger hard drives, etc. So not worth my time or expense. I don’t think anyone out there is interested in it. I don’t know why I even bother mentioning it. Moving on…
I bought high-speed WiFi for my laptop at home, when I discovered it quite by accident. After driving home from my mother’s house last Monday to do a 8 AM online live lecture class, I was fuming about how I don’t have high speed internet at home. I opened up my laptop and without even thinking, clicked on my FireFox and discovered that HotSpot high speed internet was available. Ever since I moved here to the country, I’ve been unable to get high speed internet…until now. Apparently, a local internet provider offers HotSpot WiFi in the country because they have satellite towers out here for the folks who buy their services. Now they have the HotSpot Wifi for the computers/laptops that have wireless built in and don’t need the modem to convert satellite into high speed internet. For $20 a month, I can have high speed internet that’s 6x faster than dial up (oh my god, dial up yuck!), and I’ve been going apeshit using it from home. I downloaded D. Gray-Man anime after reading the manga for weeks up to now. omg, the anime has alot of stuff in it not covered in the manga, although the storyline is exactly the same. I also have the freedom of logging into my online class and uploading my works, editing, and commenting on my classmates works without worrying about the time constraints and having to rush home. I love it! I’m addicted to the speed, and being able to release my little beast of a MacBook online from the comfort of my home, surrounded by my five furry children and husband who is no longer yelling at me to come home asap, and save on gas. I can surf the cyberspace at any hour! I really can do the online class without having to dress up to go outside and drive to my mother’s house to use her Comcast internet. I can do it in bed!!! Naked with bedhair and all!!!

I got to do some home projects. I finally got around to resurfacing my little bedside table that I’ve been meaning to do for years. Oh my goodness, how theraptic it was to just focus on sanding the old finish off and revealing the white wood underneath it. My mind was so clear and relaxed. Sand, sand, sand, back and forth, back and forth, wipe, blow, wipe, check the wood grain, sand, sand, sand …. Extremely relaxing. I briefly entertained a notion in the back of my mind about quitting work and going into cabinetry. I love working with my hands, and have always wanted to craft some of my own furniture pieces. I thought about doing that as a hobby while I worked my current job. Then I might not be so freakin’ stressed out from work.
Yesterday I finished a class project for my Digital Imaging class, want see? We were supposed to make a movie poster of a B-rated horror movie called “The Spelling” about a house that’s bigger inside that it is outside, and at least one scary face, the movie’s name in scary lettering, lots of photoshop editing technique used on this, yadda, yadda. Well, you get it …
My previous project about the owl, lady and mantis, got me an A, 135 out of 150 points. “Impeccable technique and creative composition” but needs to fix the shadow under the mantis, and the owl looks like it’s floating.”
